History

The lhasa apso is a ancient breed of dog, they can be traced back as early as 800B.C  That origin is Tibet The Dalai Lama had many lhasa apso, they were considered to be sacred. The lhasa apso was never sold only given as gifts. They were used as watchdogs for the temples in Tibet. The Lhasa apso was brought over to the uk in 1920 back then they were know as the lhasa terrier.

Temprement

Lhasa apso's are affectionate little dogs they can be aloof with strangers, They tend to have bursts of energy and are playful but then tend to have quiet spells. They are known for being quiet willful and do need a firm owner. They tend to cope well with children as longs as the children are respectful. The Lhasa apso comes across as being confident and alert, there also intelligent little dogs. The Lhasas are very enjoyable dogs and they love their families.

My Lhasa are well socialised , But we advice you carry on with the training and socialising to get the very best out of your dog, you get out what you put in.

Grooming

The lhasa apso has a long, heavy coat, they are also consided hypoallergenic and not known to affect allergy suffers, They don't moult either. Their coats can be kept at any desirable length. A Lhasa apso in full coat is not has hard to keep as you may think, a once a week thorougher comb through normally keeps the coat mat and tangle free. It's important that you start brushing your Lhasa from a puppy to get them used to it. If the coat is kept knot free then grooming can be a very pleasurable for you and your dog, I find it very therapeutic.

Your Lhasa's feet will need to be trimmed to stop the hair in between the pads from mating. You will also need to keep there nail trimmed. Your Lhasa's ears and eyes will need to be kept clean and there ears will need to be plucked from time to time. This is very simple to do i am able to show you. A good groomer can always do all this for you. They can always clip the dogs coat short to make it more manageable for you they look like little teddy bears kept short and in a puppy trim.
